Synthesis- and Processingtechnology

Our involvement with RUBIO

The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research (IAP) specializes in the research and development of polymer applications. It supports companies and partners in the customized development and optimization of innovative and sustainable materials, processing aids and processes. In the Rubio project, the IAP is active in two sub-projects: in the development of PBS materials and technologies for their synthesis (VP 2) and in the diverse applications in the field of polymer processing (VP 4). While VP 2 focuses on the development of new high-performance PBS types and the construction of a continuous PBS pilot plant, in VP 4 the IAP, together with partners from industry and research, organizes and works on development projects in almost all areas of polymer processing. development projects in almost the entire spectrum of thermoplastic polymer processing. From film extrusion and thermoforming, blow molding and injection molding to the spinning of fibers and nonwovens as well as the testing of UD tape applications, the optimal processing parameters for PBS are being determined. The results obtained so far show that bio-based and biodegradable PBS materials with their material properties can be promising substitutes for classic, petroleum-based polymers in many areas.
