Our involvement with RUBIO

The Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) in Potsdam is a pioneer and driver of bioeconomy research. Our vision is an innovative and sustainable bioeconomy that produces healthy food for all, operates on the basis of renewable raw materials and enables the shared health of humans, animals and the environment. The aim of research at ATB is therefore to produce biomass sustainably for food and as a raw material for bio-based products and energy sources and to use it holistically - on the basis of analysis, modeling and evaluation of bioeconomic production systems. Our concepts for a bio-based circular economy are flexible and site-specific in order to meet global challenges such as environmental and climate protection, food security and animal welfare locally and individually. In addition to 20 hectares of agricultural test area in our Fieldlab for Digital Agriculture, the ATB has an efficient infrastructure of well-equipped laboratories, offices, event rooms and pilot plants. With our work in the RUBIO network, we are at the beginning of the value chain by using a biotechnological process to produce succinic acid based on local raw and residual materials (preferably lignocellulose). The focus here is on optimizing the individual process steps - scaling up from a batch process in the laboratory to an industry-oriented continuous process on a pilot scale.
